Reviews

After seeing a review from another Latino, I must say, I did not feel Mary Kelly-Webber’s questions were targeted. In fact, I thought it was very informative as far as level setting expectations for the procedure and health requirements. I (personally) wished more offices had folks like this. Most IVF offices in the greater Boston area are difficult to get a hold of, the fact that Mary Kelley-Webber was so responsive and informative makes my partner and I seriously want to consider Fertility Solutions of New England. Right now, it feels more like an arms race for our first cycle because we want to take advantage of our employer funding benefits for this calendar year (and FSNE is completely booked out this December). We may consider them for our next cycle next year. I’d say the only hesitation I have is that their availability seems perhaps a bit more limited than other clinics in the area which concerns me a bit because everything (at least for women) has to be done during our cycle, so flexibility/availability around timing is imperative

My husband and I had an appointment this summer, and we were so excited to have a consultation and start the process of family planning. We carefully filled out the pre-visit questionnaire and made sure we were extremely detailed in where we were at and what we were looking to discuss. My husband and I will need to utilize donor sperm, so we have not been TTC in the traditional manner...if you catch my drift. We were excited to discuss our options, where to start, and what steps would come next. Consultations are virtual, so we opened up zoom and were met by Dr. Hill who jumped in and immediately asked "so how long have you been trying and failing to get pregnant". A little shocked as we had carefully filled out a form explaining and detailing that we had not, I let him know this was square one for us. He replied, "oh, so what are we discussing today?" Dr. Hill then realized he should skim the print out of our forms in front of him and in reviewing my stats (age, height, etc) stopped hard when he got to my weight and said "oof. you are on the pretty heavy side so we are going to want to jump straight to the big guns and go full IVF. Unless you can commit to loosing 15-30 pounds, but even then....". I immediately wanted to cry. I am 5'10" and wear a 14. I am fully aware I am not petite, but being told I was too fat to have a baby without "the big guns" was over the top and extremely tactless. At this, Dr. Hill let me know that we are going to have to run all sorts of test, so on my next cycle day 1 call to schedule a "probe" on day 3, and the asked quickly "okay, well any questions?" and then concluded the zoom as he was already getting up from his desk. In all, our call lasted 8 minutes and we walked away from it feeling pretty shocked, shamed, and certainly no further ahead in our journey towards becoming parents - something we have been aching for. This call that we were so excited about ended up being extremely traumatic. To add insult to injury, no follow-up was ever made with us and we were sent a $500 bill.... for what, I am still very unsure.

It took me a few days to process my recent experience and come up with a review that I hope others find helpful. First, I want to say that the ancillary staff (secretaries, nurses, etc) and some of the physicians were compassionate and knowledgeable. With that being said, if you are going to use FCNE for your fertility needs, please avoid Dr. Joseph Hill at all cost. Without going into very personal specifics, I required special accommodations that the secretaries were happy to provide without me needing to share details. The other physicians I saw for procedures also understood when this issue came up and assured me that they could accommodate (not a big deal). During a recent follow up appointment, Joseph Hill told me he found out that I needed a special accommodation, that the clinic could not accommodate and that I needed to find another clinic. I told him his colleagues and other staff had told me otherwise, and he went crazy; he started yelling at me. Wouldn’t let me explain. Yelled over me, victim shamed me and ended the video call yelling at me to find another clinic before hanging up on me. When I called the clinic to report him, the director of patient care didn’t seem surprised and said she’d “talk to him.” In reality, I would be fired if I ever spoke to a patient or customer like that. Now I know why he was the doctor with the earliest openings when I called for an initial consultation. He talks like a salesman, it’s impossible to get a word in, and his statistics are not always accurate. And G-d forbid you ask for clarification. He’s the reason women don’t always trust male physicians/providers. So again, if you’re going to use FCNE, ask for another doctor, any other doctor. They do have some good physicians. But avoid Dr. Joseph Hill.

This review is long overdue, we had a wonderful results working with Dr.Vitiello and team. Our older son was successful on our second try and our younger son was successful in one try. (They are now 2.5yr old and 6 months old). Dr Vitiello is very knowledgeable and professional. IVF is a long and complicated process with so many lab visits required (to make sure the best timing to do the transfer). During our first time attempt, at times we were confused by lack of direction or conflicting directions and we had to frequently call for further instructions but the team was very helpful. You will need to check the portal for next step and appointments as well. I wished there were more clear information especially for the first time with egg extraction etc. Overall, Dr.Vitiello and team is amazing and I definitely recommended.

I would not recommend FCNE. They have already ruined my trust and confidence in their practices in our first handful of interactions. First, they advertise a free initial consult for individuals without fertility insurance. They then billed me for the visit after both I and their office confirmed prior to my initial visit that my insurance does not cover infertility treatment. When asked, they stated the EOB they received indicated it was covered but deductible not yet met; they would not provide me with a copy of the EOB they received. My insurance confirmed FCNE were sent the same EOB I received, which clearly states it was denied as a non-covered service. FCNE billing just told me basically it's not their problem and to talk to my insurance. Second, when asked how I could file a formal complaint regarding the above, the billing representative first said she didn't know how and I'd just have to search their website, and then outright lied to me (told me to use the contact us option in the website footer and select complaint option from the drop-down; no such option exists). Third, on my very first in person visit to their new Falmouth office for diagnostic testing, their technician was over 2.5 hours late and the only solution offered (after several attempts to reach anyone in the main office) was to drive to their Portsmouth NH office. Another patient waiting with me said this was the second time this has happened (out of two visits). They called us back some 20 minutes later and said the technician would be there after all (2 hrs after the original scheduled appointment time); we went back and waited another 40 minutes before she did arrive. Also, since this office is otherwise unstaffed, we had to wait on the floor in the hallway (currently a construction zone!) The only acknowledgement we received was an apology call later in the day, with no information on any proactive plans made to avoid this happening again.
