Reviews
The FCI clinic in Chicago River North is amazing! They all took great care of me and always made me feel welcome and at ease in my fertility journey. Dr. Burks is an exceptional doctor! She helped me throughout my fertility journey and recommended the best path for us to take. I trust her and know she has my best interest at heart. She also has a remarkable nurse team supporting her who also take excellent care of you throughout the process. Special shout out to Alyssa who was the best nurse I had in my life. She is super patient centric! I’m grateful for Dr. Burks and her team being alongside me in this important chapter of my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better Doctor and team! I highly recommend them!
If you're working with a fertility clinic chances are your stress levels are already heightened. FCIs disorganization and cryptic patient portal only added to the painstaking nature of the experience. The receptions have never returned a voicemail, I had to repeatedly ask for my results to be posted in my patient portal. When I had an outstanding bill, their portal has such poor functionality, I was unable to see my outstanding balance. It blindly asked for a dollar amount payment and the QR code on the paper bill didn't work either. Additionally, they now have 2 office locations. One is located on Kingsbury below Northwestern Women's Specialist, a large OB/GYN practice, but if you need to do sperm prep for IUI at that OB, now it's done at the Chestnut location (about a mile away). I was transporting the sperm back to the office in an envelope. This is obviously not ideal and bad for everyone's business. After doing my complete IVF work up with them, and had an appointment with a REI doctor, no one has called to follow up. The only person who has was Fertility Access, their third party financial partner. I get that reproductive health is a business but I felt irrelevant at a place asking for $30-42K out of pocket. They might have lovely doctors who will get you pregnant, but the road to get there can be tough and there's no reason to feel like that by the place you're paying to support you through the process. In all, I've decided not to continue my fertility journey with FCI.
We recently welcomed our first child after years of trying all due to the diligent work of Dr Hirshfeld and her team. We were with her for over a year of treatment which included four rounds of IUI, two egg retrievals, and two embryo transfers. She was able to fully answer our questions with the utmost patience (which is extremely helpful especially going through IVF). Most importantly, she customized the subsequent egg retrieval cycle based on my response as the patient - whereas some clinicians may just use a cookie cutter protocol. We owe everything to her and her team for our dream come true of our son - we will definitely be returning for when we would like to add another addition to our family. Thank you again Dr Hirshfeld! The phlebotomy team at this location was also fantastic (however I would avoid going in on weekend draws if you can avoid it). The only downside of this clinic, would be dealing with their financial team - multiple times we’ve had issues with proper communication (with our financial coordinator also changing multiple times without proper notification). We’ve had to escalate this lack of prompt communication with the financial team lead several times - who was able to eventually assist us. This is why I have to deduct a star.
This is a wonderfully supportive clinic. All the staff, nurses, and doctors are friendly, welcoming, and supportive throughout your cycle. Separate from the clinic experience, we recently had an unfortunate parking situation where our car was inadvertently towed from the downtown surgical center, but the staff was quick to address and make us whole for the inconvenience. We are truly grateful to the clinic’s management team for their swift resolution and highly recommend this clinic for this and the excellent medical care.
I had a great experience at FCI with Dr. Burks and her nurse Alyssa. I was impressed with the speed at which I was able to get in and found all of the initial testing and consult appointments very thorough. When I started retrievals, it was easy to make monitoring appointments (they open at 6:30am which was amazing) and Alyssa always called me back within a few hours to review my medication instructions. The clinical team was always very caring and gentle. The bloodwork girls rock!! You do need to be a little proactive with the financial side of things and stay on top of it. I would get automated texts with bills even though I had a large deposit on file for my procedures. It was confusing to know what I actually owed sometimes. After messaging the financial team they straightened everything out for me. I would absolutely go back to FCI for future procedures. I felt like my care was very personalized.
