They practically stole my money WITHOUT asking or informing me…. This is in reference to the Dr. Dan Gehlbach’ clinic. I went there to perform a procedure called HSG and to my surprise it was a male provider that was going to be performing it. I will say i should’ve checked beforehand so this might be on me but what happens next is FULLY on the clinic. After realizing it was a male provider and there was no female to perform it, I went to the front desk and asked if I had the ability to decline and cancel the appointment. The front desk were SOOOOO clear in saying that it was not a problem at all, and they informed me that i was going to receive a full refund back and I will not be charged for anything. Please note that I asked multiple times if i will be charged anything because if I was, I was going to make an exception and perform the procedure because fertility treatment is expensive and I couldn’t pay for this procedure twice, but they ASSURED me I was not going to be charged for anything and as a matter of fact, they refunded me the $500 i paid on the spot and told me I will be getting a check in the mail for the remaining $188 that they owed me. The front desk staff even started helping me find other clinics that have female providers which I thought was so nice!!!!!!…….. A few days later I received a bill of about $700 from them, they had reached out to my insurance and claimed money and they used the $188 that they owed me, and sent me a bill with the difference. When I called to ask what is this, they said it was for the opened equipment that they couldn’t use later so they needed to be reimbursed for it. i was so furious because I asked them many many times during the appointment day if I will be charged anything and they assured that I will not and they said I will get a full refund, how unprofessional is this…. After many interactions on phone and email, they zeroed out my account so I don’t owe anything else but they refused to send me the remaining $188 and they said they needed it, so guys beware of this clinic and make sure you are asking for detailed receipts, and if they owe you credit i don’t think you should expect to receive it, they will find a way to use it…..

After being treated like a number at a well-known university related clinic, we switched to MRC. Although our first procedure was not successful, Dr. Gelbach personally reached out via phone call to deliver the bad news, and discuss future possibilities. We were leery at first, but eventually decided to try again. The staff at MRC were so friendly and helpful that once we were pregnant, we did not want to switch over to my regular OBGYN! Keep in mind that every BODY and SITUATION is different, but I delivered a beautiful and healthy baby at the age of 46. MRC and Dr. Gelbach made our dreams of becoming parents a reality. Tired of a one size fits all treatment approach? Call MRC.

They need to get someone else in billing. Vicki is one of the rudest, most condescending people I have ever had the displeasure of speaking with. Every phone call and interaction has been unpleasant and she tries to make you feel like you have no idea what you are talking about (hello, yes, I did in fact read my plan). They refused to submit some bills to insurance so I had to do it (mind you, I paid out of pocket so this might have taken them, what, an additional 5 minutes out of their day?). They supplied the paperwork including the diagnosis and treatment codes, and now that the insurance is saying those things were covered and they need to refund me the overpaid amount, she is trying to wiggle them out of it by sending additional documents. When they are the ones who supplied me with the document to send to insurance in the first place. They have also tried to charge me after insurance processed other claims, and the fact that I had to reach out to get them to remove it was absolutely ridiculous. Vicki has no idea what she is doing, in my opinion. I am beyond frustrated. The front desk staff (specifically Kim) are amazing, but Vicki in billing needs to either learn how to be nice or find another job where she never has to be client facing. Also: a blood test is by literal definition a test, not treatment. You can say it's part of your treatment plan all you like, that doesn't make it a treatment.

The initial experience wasn’t too bad, Jonni was the sweetest to navigate the process with while my husband was in deployment. Being a military spouse, I was at many appointments by myself. However, I never met Dr Gehlbach until just moment before my surgery. After a year of trying, we made an appointment to speak to him and discuss the next steps. It was a complete waste of time, money and hours of travel. We spent nearly an hour being lectured to be patient, keep trying, etc etc. I ended up making an appointment with a local OB-GYN, he ordered an HSG test immediately, where we found out the surgery was a complete failure, both tubes are blocked. When I reached out to let Dr. Gehlbach’s office know, I was met with complete lack of empathy from them. Shortly after, I received a letter from them offering their IVF services. It’s disheartening, we spent $10,000+ on a surgery that failed, only to get an offer to spend thousands more on IVF.

We are so glad we switched our care to MRC. They have the kindest and most attentive staff. After several years of treatment at another clinic, with no success, we switched to MRC and were successful. I never felt like I was just a number at any of my appointments. Dr. Gehlbach and his team always made me feel like I was included in plans for my treatment. We will always be thankful for the blessing that Midwest Reproductive Center has given us.
