DR. John Waite in urgent care is OUTSTANDING! His personality is THE BEST and makes u laugh in ur not so good moments! He listens with great empathy and he made me feel sooooo comfortable as I'm a single mom that went in all alone and he didn't know but my anxiety was through the roof! He made me laugh many times throughout exam as I so needed that! Nurse Gary was also great too and I am so elated that there is such good fun flowing vibes in urgent care at Honolulu Clinic as it relieves the stress of why you're there in the first place!

honestly it's a good practice. however, I'm just so annoyed about how they charge you to be there. paying to park there, but you already are paying to visit the doctors, and most times I miss the window of being able to leave because they understaff their pharmacy and it takes 20 minutes ontop of a 30-45minute appointment. it's just so ridiculous how much of a scam it is to park there.

Just a bad sick joke. Came into urgent care because every time my partner schedules a primary care visit with Kaiser it gets bumped out a month to a day he has to work and he simply can't get in to see the primary care doctor. Spent 2 hours waiting in the lobby for an appointment to finally be called only to be told that we had to go over to the laboratory for some tests. What tests? They haven't even seen us yet. We haven't talked to anybody, and they don't really have a comprehensive idea of why we're even in for a visit. And why not have us go to the laboratory at any time during the 2 hours we were waiting prior to our appointment time to get the lab work started rather than waiting until the time of the appointment and then having us start the lab work? Then to boot you're going to have my partner do 19 different lab tests without even speaking with him first, which he will be charged a 20% coinsurance for so for all we know we could get a bill that's anywhere from three or $400 to are out of pocket maximum of $2,500 when all he really needed was to have his testosterone tested and his vitamin levels tested. hell, they even wanted to test him for syphilis without any idea of why he was even in for the visit. Enormous waste of time on our one day off together because none of the people that are involved in the process seem to have an ounce of actual common sense.

My review relates to the ophthalmology department on the 6th floor. Specifically Christopher Lum. What a complete waste of time. Key takeaways from my visit. - no answers. - poked hard in the eye by a careless nurse moving way too fast no doubt to advance the extremely long line of patients as quickly as possible, and not taking the time that she should to be delicate with someone's eyes. Honestly it's like she was playing whack-a-mole with my eye. -A Doctor who just seem to be asleep at the wheel. Had to repeat everything for him over and over again. I kept thinking "Am I crazy here? The words that are coming out of my mouth seem like English....They sure make sense to me. But this guy just doesn't seem to be absorbing the information...". He couldn't seem to retain anything I said for more than a minute (less). Maybe he just wasn't listening? He kept recommending the same eye drops I had already told him I had an extreme reaction too. He kept coming back to "Try the preservative free ones. And I'm thinking "Oh my God... how many times do I have to tell you that's exactly what I tried. Apparently five times. Five times is how many times I have to tell you... How are you not understanding the words coming out of my mouth? Then I asked him if a discrepancy in the prescription between the right and left eye could be causing ongoing eye strain, as one eye had to compensate for the other all day long, and he actually told me "I don't know........" And I'm thinking "My God man it says right on the Academy of American Ophthalmologists website, which you supposedly belong to (right in your hospital web page bio), that it absolutely can have that effect. He says "well we can set you up with an appointment for one of our optometrists on another day to check your prescription". And I tell him "when I made my appointment they said they were going to do that during this visit". To which he replies "well we can't do that now because we dilated your eyes. To which I reply "Exactly...so why didn't you do it before you dilated my eyes to eliminate that as a possible cause of my ongoing eye pain?" I particularly love when you followed up with "Do you have any other questions today?" And I'm thinking "you mean in addition to the many questions you already haven't answered?" Sure here's a good question "what the hell was the point of me even coming in here? I got more solid useful information from legitimate accredited sources on the internet than I got in our entire visit. To quote the movie office space "what would you say you do here?" I remember a line from a movie that said you don't have to be a good actor to recognize a bad one. I think the same holds true for any profession. I don't need to be a doctor with a medical degree to recognize another human being that simply isn't motivated. As an intelligent human being I can recognize indifference in other people. Lazy careless indifference. It just seems to be what's "normal" now. So now begins the search for another ophthalmologist covered by my health plan and the hours I'll have to spend online to find one with better reviews than this hack, and figure out if my insurance will cover a second opinion and take a day off from work to attend the visit. Our healthcare system has become such a convoluted joke.. You go into a medical office because you trust that these people have had the training to help you and that they chose this career because they want to help people. But honestly more often than not this is my experience. It's like going to a bad mechanic. Not only can they not diagnose the problem (or even admit that there is a problem. Being unable to open my eyes at work and coming home with migraines everyday is definitely normal right?) , but you have a good chance of coming out with a new problem you didn't have when you came in. So all of this and the only thing I got out of is it a painful left eye. She was going to poke me hard in the eye I wish she had hit the right eye but instead she poked me in the good one. Awesome.

Because of the anxiety in person appointments give me, I tend to stick to the virtual options Kaiser offers. However, I needed X-rays done so I had to head on in to the Honolulu clinic. This was my first time visiting this particular location and my brain was foggy due to the overwhelming and unreasonable anxiety. When I entered, I was quickly greeted by the friendliest woman who stood near the check-in kiosk. She figured out exactly what I was needing and pointed me in the right direction then immediately assisted my boyfriend in finding where he needed to go, which was in a completely different area. Communicating with her was quick and informative, but I never felt rushed or walked away confused. I then approached the x-ray check in area where I was then greeted by another friendly woman who eased my anxiety even more. She was kind, quick, and efficient. The way she held herself really brightened the room. Thinking it couldn’t get any better, I was then taken back by an excellent radiology technician who patiently instructed me so we could get what we needed. She never made me feel like I was cattle going through the shoot and held light conversation that made me feel a lot more comfortable. The clinic was pretty busy when I visited but they were so composed and conducted themselves so so well. I am absolutely thrilled with the care I received and I am much more confident with in person visits as long as I have this kind of care. To me, it isn’t about just one specific person, Dr, nurse, etc. it’s about the experience as a whole from start to finish. And truthfully, this visit exceeded my expectations! Service like this was comparable to the pleasant workers at Disney! Thank you to the three lovely ladies and Kaiser for upholding this type of standard for care. * I messed up and didn’t get their names. I hope that Kaiser can figure this part out and commend them for their outstanding job. Tuesday 1/14/25 before 11am.
